The Paper Project

The Paper Project is a partnership with the UT Campus Environmental Center that gives a
local on the ground presence to the programs of Forest Ethics. Founded in 1994, Forest
Ethics is a nonprofit environmental organization with staff in Canada, the United States and
Chile. Their mission is to protect Endangered Forests by exposing corporations that destroy
Endangered Forests, helping corporations that want to act responsibly, and using corporate
power to permanently protect forests. Through on-going efforts, the organization was able
to get Victoria’s Secret to make an unprecedented long-term commitment to the
environment Their current campaign focuses on Sears who are responsible for the
production and distribution of 425 million catalogs a year.

Moving Forward
Our goal to move forward with The Paper Project is to continue to partner with Forest
Ethics through the organization’s existing campaigns. AGA will continue to serve as an
Austin-based partner for Forest Ethics and will work to train their activists to conduct
art-making events as part of their actions. We will work locally with the UT Campus
Environmental Center to support the local actions of the campaign. Reused Paper-based art
is common and it gives us the opportunity to showcase the work of many artists at events
and give participants a chance to learn techniques hands-on.
